The timeline for hardwood flooring installation depends on the size of the area and complexity of the project. For an average-sized living room (about 300 sq ft), installation typically takes 2-3 days, including preparation, installation, and finishing. Larger projects or those requiring custom work may take longer.
Solid hardwood is made from a single piece of wood throughout, while engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer on top with multiple layers of plywood underneath. Solid hardwood can be refinished multiple times but is more susceptible to moisture. Engineered hardwood is more stable in humid conditions and can be installed in basements, but can be refinished fewer times.
You can typically walk on newly finished hardwood floors in sock feet after 24 hours. However, it's best to wait 48-72 hours before placing furniture back on the floors, and about 7-10 days before laying down area rugs to allow the finish to fully cure.
