A standard refinishing project usually takes 3-5 days to complete. Day 1 involves sanding, Day 2 is for staining (if applicable), and Days 3-5 are for applying multiple coats of finish with drying time between coats. Larger areas or floors requiring extensive repairs may take longer.
Our floor refinishing warranty covers any defects in the workmanship of the refinishing process for 2 years from completion. This includes issues with the finish adhesion, bubbling, or peeling under normal use conditions. The warranty doesn't cover damage from water, impacts, or scratches caused by improper care or accidents.
For daily cleaning, use a microfiber dust mop or vacuum with a hardwood floor attachment. For deeper cleaning, use a hardwood-specific cleaner applied with a slightly damp mop. Avoid wet mopping, steam cleaning, or oil-based cleaners. Use felt pads under furniture, trim pet nails, and clean spills promptly. Avoid high heels, dragging furniture, and direct sunlight exposure.
Refinishing is ideal if your floor has surface scratches, dullness, or minor stains but is structurally sound. Repair is better when there are more significant issues like deep gouges or several damaged boards. Replacement is recommended if the floor has extensive structural damage, has been refinished multiple times already, or has serious water damage. We can assess your floors and recommend the most cost-effective solution.
While it's possible to stay in your home during refinishing, many families choose to vacate for 2-3 days during sanding and when applying oil-based finishes due to dust and fumes. If using water-based finishes, the odor is minimal. We use dust containment systems to minimize impact, but sensitive individuals (especially those with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and young children) should avoid the home during the process.
